More Distractions from Facebook with Sound Notifications

We are all used to the sound that occurs when we receive a chat message from someone on Facebook chat but most of us are not used to hearing a sound every time someone creates an interactive action on the social networking site, Facebook.

Late last year, Facebook began testing sound notifications and for some you may already be used to hearing a sound when a notification is received on Facebook; for the rest of us, we are now beginning to hear a lot of sounds coming from our speakers that stops us in our tracks of what we’re doing to uncover where the sound is coming from. Once it is figured that it is a notification sound from Facebook we cannot help but keep the volume up to be notified when one of our connections create a notification on Facebook.

Thus far, we have been notified visually and often check Facebook to see if anything new has occurred, or we have the notifications display on our smartphones, which can already be distracting enough. Now, we can save on the refresh button since Facebook has now enabled sound notifications, which will have us going to Facebook possibly even more than we already are.

Although it is a more effective way in allowing us remain informed in real-time to keep constantly connecting with our friends and family members and hearing our interactions can create a warm feeling for some it can become a little too much.

Here is how you can turn off sound notifications on Facebook:

To turn off notification sounds, go to your notifications settings and uncheck the box next to Play a sound when each new notification is received:

Click on your Account settings in the upper-right corner of any page on Facebook and select Account Settings

Click Notifications in the left column

Find the How you get notifications section

Click View next to On Facebook

Uncheck the box next to Play a sound when each new notification is received

Click Save Changes
